My main beverage of choice is brewed ice tea and I use either Sweet & Low or Splenda to sweeten it. I don't use sugar. How bad is that? I am not a soda drinker and I enjoy my ice tea for when I want a change from water. Should I avoid sugar substitutes while on the P90? I also use it in my occasional cup of coffee. And would use it on my cereal and in oatmeal, if it is acceptable.

Maybe someone will have some insight on this. I start my program tomorrow and would like to lose 20 pounds. Thanks!!

Splenda looks good, so far. The two that you absolutley want to avoid on a regular basis are aspartame and sacchrine. Another one that is getting rave reviews is Stevia, which is all natural and, I think, 600 times sweeter than sugar.

I'm going to put my two cents in here only because I have used about every single type of sugar substitute on this earth. I just used splenda yesterday to make a gallon of lemonade and it doesn't taste any different than if you would have done it with sugar. The good thing about Splenda is it is a 1 to 1 ratio w/sugar. I use Stevia once in awhile but not when I need a lot of sweetness because it leaves an aftertaste, The same goes for the other substitute in the store right now ( I don't remember the name but it also starts with an S).

I just picked up some Sommersweet from Suzanne Sommers website and now use that in my coffee and iced tea it is sweeter than Splenda so you use less of it but it doesn't leave an aftertaste either.

Good luck!

Not terribly surprising, the longer Splenda's been on the market the shakier the research is looking. I'd be just as wary with it as with any other artificial sweetener.

Stevia, also, has some negative research associated but, at least anecdotally, it's been used in its raw form for a long time.

I would recommend using artificial sweeteners as little as you can. There is--nor can be--any longterm research showing that any one is definitively safe.
