I work the midnight shift at my job. Most of the time it is very slow and I drink diet coke to stay awake (Who am I fooling? I admit it, I drink it because I LOVE it!) I have been known to have 4-5 12oz cans a day. I do plan on cutting back my intake. My question for you is: on Michi's Ladder I find "coffee, black" and "sugared soft drinks." No where does it address diet soft drinks. Can I have any???? Please reply. I am only on day one of P90 and I have a can, unopened, sitting her taunting me. I want to drink it, but I also want to succeed with the goals I have set.

Diet soda is probably not all that bad in small amounts but I would cut back on the volume you are drinking, for sure. That much soda of any kind is bad because the added carbonation affects your body's phosphorus levels, creating an imbalance the inhibits bodily performance across the board. Many athletes avoid even a single soft drink before performing so I'd imagine the consistant consumption could have your body performing consistantly at a disadvantage.

Also, aspartame has not tested well in high dosages. Since claims are varied I won't speculate on the dangers but you can do a search at www.pubmed.com and read some studies. There are over 700 there and all are not negative. Because all negative studies seem to use high dosages I'm not over concerned with occasional consumption, but I would certainly avoid habitual consumption.

Believe it or not, and those who know me don't, I have already cut back to one diet coke a day. I was afraid I would have the dreaded headaches when you stop drinking caffinated sodas, but I didn't. It's amazing how quickly I was able to make the break. I believe my body is ready for a change.

Results will vary. Weight loss may be temporary as exercise and proper diet are required to maintain long-term weight loss and muscle gain.
