I just got my Power 90 system in the mail. I am planning to start Monday. I was looking through the diet guide and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on how to get the proper amount of protien as a vegetarian? What can I substitute for meat?
I am 19, 5'9", 180 lbs. trying to lose 20 to 30 lbs. Thanks! |

There are the obvious dairy products, milk, eggs, cheese (not too much!), and cottage cheese.
Legumes (beans, peas, lentils, etc) are great but have a lot of carbs so you will need to watch closely. Tofu is a soy bean product but you don't want to get all of your protein from soy. Veggies contain protein but not too many calories, making them prohibitive as your main protein source. Nuts and seeds have protein, but also a lot of fat (good fat, but still) and calories. It is also good to supplement with whey and soy protein--mainly whey and to take a Lysine supplement since it's an essential amino acid found only in meat. There are some good vegan protein powders available besides soy, like rice and hempseed protein. The latter, particularly, is very good because it also has an excellent fatty acid profile. |
