I've seen this in a lot of supps and would like to know what it is and what it does.

Synephrine is a "thermogenic" that supposedly raises the body's metabolism so you can lose weight w/o exercise. Some studies seem to show that it's somewhat effective, though I don't know much about its safety record. Here is a study that compared it to ephedra, which is dangerous:
