What are the advantages of brown rice over white rice? When comparing labels they're pretty much equal. Just curious
Thank you, Allen |

During the milling process, the outer bran layer is removed to make white rice. Besides containing nutrients, the outer layer provides fiber and makes you feel fuller, so you eat less of it. A similar process removes the fiber from wheat, for example to make flour. Carbs are required for energy, but unused carbs are ultimately converted to body fat.
Whenever man takes perfectly good food and alters it, he screws it up. Even the juicing process (which some people view as a healthy thing) results in the removal of benefitial fiber and nutrients. Oranges are better for you than orange juice, whole grains are better for you than breads and pasta for example. You will get more nutrients, feel fuller and consume fewer calories if you eat food the way that nature presented it to us (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts and seeds). Many people believe that the reason that this country's obesity level has skyrocketed (besides inactivity) is because of the low fat/high carb craze. We bought and ate everything that was advertised as "lite" or "low fat" in spite of the fact that many of these products are made with refined (processed) carbohydrates and had high levels of sugar. We ate lots of it, converted what we didn't burn to body fat, we continue to eat lots of it and will stay fat and get fatter. Probably more than you wanted to know. Jim |

Not that Jim's a laymen but this is good concise info in laymen's terms and very easy to digest (pun intended). Off to the FAQs with it!
